How do I add a thumbnail photo to my post so it shows up on the home page?
This must be done in the Wordpress interface (you can NOT do this in Windows Live Writer).
- Login to WP and "edit" your post
- In the edit screen, scroll down to "Custom Fields"
- In the drop down box, choose "Image"
- Choose which of the photos in your post you'd like to have as a thumbnail.
- Right click on the photo, and choose "properties."
- Copy the Address (URL) from the properties information.
- Paste this address into the "Value" box of your custom image field.
- Delete everything in the address that preceeds "wp-content"
- Example
Photo Address = http://www.blog.petsconnect.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/tigger-sept-13-2009-thumb.jpg
Formatted for "Value" =
wp-content/uploads/2009/10/tigger-sept-13-2009-thumb.jpg
- Note: what's in the "value" box MUST begin with "wp-content" and end in .jpeg, .gif, or .tif.
- When finished, scroll up to the top of the page and choose "update post."
- Check the blog homepage to ensure your image was properly formatted.
